The establishment of this sanctuary is a pivotal step for the Ghanta Traya Foundation. Driven by a spirit of collaboration and mutual respect, this project creates a unique space for contemplative practice in Quebec. Our vision synthesizes the Nyingma, Shangpa, and Shingon lineages, offering a rare bridge between these ancestral traditions in a sustainable, natural setting.
The location of this sanctuary was chosen for its specific environmental resonance and its welcoming community. Following extensive research and reflection throughout Quebec, the Brownsburg-Chatham area was identified as the ideal permanent ground for our mission.
The Vision of the Natural Ground
We seek a site that honors the raw power of the earth. We prioritize land characterized by natural features—such as large boulders and rugged terrain—that encourage depth of practice and environmental preservation.
"Where the stone remains undisturbed, the spirit finds its focus."
Our acquisition strategy is divided into two phases of stewardship:
Phase A (The Heart): The purchase of an initial parcel (approx. 55,000 sq. ft.) to serve as our primary presence. We are currently evaluating specific plots that embody this vision, while remaining open to surrounding opportunities that best serve the Foundation’s long-term mission.
Phase B (The Buffer): The acquisition of adjacent land (approx. 95,000 sq. ft.) to preserve the tranquility of the sanctuary and expand further.
We are committed to operating in a spirit of fraternity with our neighbors, practicing absolute discretion and mutual respect.
Once the ground is secured, we will develop the "Vessel" through structures that respect both the environment and tradition.
Sector 1: The Administrative & Practice Core
On the primary plot, we will build the foundations of our community infrastructure:
The Custodian’s Retreat: A minimalist, sacred structure belonging to the Foundation. It serves as a stable base for the Lead Teacher's practice and ensures the security of the sanctuary's assets. As an institutional tool, it is used for sporadic periods of silence and collective review, not as a private residence.
The Sangha Pavilion: A modest facility intended to accommodate the 8 Board Directors and founding members for governance meetings, collaborative labor, and meditation.
Sector 2: The Cultural Heritage Garden (Shingon Inspiration)
The secondary plot will be developed as a public-benefit cultural space inspired by the Shingon tradition:
Shrines & Statues: Spiritual anchor points integrated into the natural rock formations, preserving the local landscape.
The Purification Fountain (Tsukubai): A traditional ritual passage for visitors and practitioners.
The Great Bell (Ghanta): A symbolic instrument whose sound marks the rhythm of the day and symbolizes our wakeful presence in the community.
The Assembly Temple: A refined architectural space recreating the serenity of esoteric Buddhist temples, open for public ceremonies and the preservation of sacred texts.
Ekākī-Kuṭīra : The Solitary Meditation Hut
Trikāya-Mandira : The Temple of the Three Bodies
The central shrine for the unified teachings of Padmasambhava, Niguma, and Kūkai.
Saṅgha-Vihāra : The Saṅgha Lodge, The Headquarter
Amṛta-Kūpa : The Well of Amṛta (Purification Basin)
Vajra-Ghaṇṭā-Stambha : The Vajra Bell Pillar
Kṣitigarbha-Pratima : The Kṣitigarbha Statue
Aṣṭa-Siddhi-Patha (numéro 9 sur la droite) : The Trail
Dharma-Dvāra: The Door of Dharma
Uccuṣma-Kuṭīra (numéro 9 sur la gauche) : The Uccuṣma Hut (Purifier of Defilements)
As a registered Non-Profit Organization, Ghanta Traya ensures that every asset—from the land to the smallest shrine—is held in trust by the Foundation for the community. By participating in this funding, you are planting a seed in a sanctuary that will serve as a "Vessel" of wisdom for generations to come.
